George Orwell
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." This phrase by George Orwell from Animal Farm has gone down in history and in the common consciousness of many different peoples, from different cultures, speaking to the hearts of all thinking people who know how to appreciate the goods of parliamentary democracy. Who says that? The pigs of the farm, which, after the revolution against the humans-bosses and the overthrow of the latter, do not establish equality between animals, which was the original goal of the revolution, but a totalitarian regime under the absolute power of the pig called "Napoleon". An allegorical novel, written in 1945 (just three years before the "brother" work, in 1984), The Animal Farm is inspired by the events and consequences of the Russian Revolution of 1917: how the vision for an equal civil society gradually changed into a nightmarish, authoritarian regime that imprisoned and exterminated dissidents. Orwell's war against Stalinism (mainly based on his experiences in the Spanish Civil War) culminates here, even before 1984. A classic work now, The Animal Farm has been loved by completely different generations of readers and has been transferred many times to the cinema, television, theater, while it has also become a comic.
