The series The Foundations of Horror Literature's series continues with the fourth volume which includes the short stories Horror in Danwitch and The Testimony of Randolph Carter. Without the traveler knowing why, he hesitates to ask for instructions from the rosy, lonely figures that appear here and there on the crumbling headstones or on the stony pastures on the slopes. These forms are so silent and fleeting that one feels that one is faced with something dangerous, something that better not have anything to do with it.

The testimony of Randolph Carter:  I did not distort or try to conceal the slightest thing, and if there is still ambiguity in my testimony, it is because a dark cloud has covered my mind - a cloud and with it all the cloudy nature of the horrible experience I lived.

H.P. Lovecraft Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born on August 20, 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island. Introverted, ill-mannered and a lover of literature - but also of astronomy - from a very young age, he spent long periods of his life isolated from the outside world. He once said that all my stories are based on the fundamental assumption that common human laws and human emotions have no power or significance in the universe.
